History[]
An early German light tank. Cheap but not well armed or armoured, mass production began in 1934, production was dropped in 1938 in favor of the Pz.Kpfw. II. Although its lifespan was brief, it did see service in the Spanish Civil war, where its performance was underwhelming . Most importantly, the Panzer I gave the panzerwaffe ( German Armored corps) and designers valuable experience which would lead to the excellent tanks produced later in the war. The Panzer I hull would continue to be used as a base for SPAA, SPA, SPG, and armored recon vehicles after its obsolescence in frontline service. Some 2,400 Panzer Is of all types were produced.
